"You are digging in deeper than the scars you've left behind."I am sitting here in tears, my heart in my throat, and breathing erratically in an emotional haze. I cant even put into words how Stone broke me and pieced me back together. There’s a saying, “That everyone is fighting something” and it’s so damn true, but Willow’s fight and her and Stone’s story resonated with me so deeply.
It broke me, pieced me back together and healed me.
There are certain authors that no matter what I am doing or how busy I am I simply have to stop everything and read. Mandi Beck is one of them. I have a ton of homework that has been ignored and a presentation that is due by Sunday, but I could not for the life of me put this book down. The struggles, the pain, the growth, and underlying tones of faith and family gave this book a heartbeat. The experiences and situations in this book hit me hard. So hard. We all have our own mountains to climb but Mandi reminded me that the fall can be just as beautiful as the climb.
I've lived this story. I've seen addiction and what it can do to those fighting and those left behind. It's real, it's ugly and it's messy. But the fight is worth it. So worth it.
This book is life. It's real. It's messy and it's beautiful, too.
The raw intensity of these two is something you have to experience for yourself. How Mandi writes with such fragility and strength is something I will always admire. She has her own style and it works.
"You can have roots and still have wings, Birdie. Doesn't mean I won't follow. Home isn't a place."
The characters became real people, and my god you will root for them. I connected so deeply with Willow and Stone I felt my soul tremble. Together and separately these two had me from the start. Every character will pull at you. You'll be a hurricane of emotions throughout the entire story. You'll be pushed to the edge, anticipating the fall, only to be pulled back again with your heart in your hands and hope in your chest. Be prepared to be wrecked. Be prepared to fight. To lose yourself and find yourself find yourself at the same time. Be prepared to fall...into the rhythm of your own heartbeat ;)

STONED Wrecked edition by Mandi Beck Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
What can I say, I am a sucker for a second chance romance and this one is BRILLIANT.
Awhile back, a friend had been shouting praises about this book I had never heard of by an author I was not familiar with, but I trust my friend and so I marked it down as something to read soon. After a particularly bad slump, I decided to give Stoned a try and by the end of the Prologue I was texting my friend a big freaking thank you.
Yes this is my first Mandi Beck book, but it will not be my last (I have since read her other two books). Her characters are so well written and developed. They are so real and relatable- and there was not one action made by one of her characters that I questioned. Nothing was forced her story flowed organically and just made sense. It was impossible for me to stop reading- so I blame you Mandi for my bad parenting as I hid from my family so I could keep reading )
So second chance romances are one of my favorite tropes (and hello musicians- love that too!). I’m not going to spoil the story for anyone, but what I will say is that I think too many second chance romances are insta-forgiveness. And I hate this. That is not reality. We are human. Someone hurts us and there is no way, no matter how much we love them, that we are able to forgive them. Maybe a small percentage of people are that amazing- but the majority of us stew on it for awhile. That is just reality. So I never understand in book when a character makes a MAJOR mistake and then is instantly forgiven. It just doesn’t work that way so it leaves me wanting and unable to connect with the characters. I want to empathize- even with the one who is in the wrong. I want to ache for these characters. I want the angst. Because when they are REALLY supposed to be together- then (IMO) the journey has to show the value of the relationship.
Mandi does that in this book. We see this bright shining couple and right from the start (this is not a spoiler) we see them at their end. We get flashbacks into how their relationship used to be (and I wish we got a little more of that), and we see the effect of substance abuse and addiction issues has on people/relationships. I was so invested in these characters that I felt like I was working and struggling alongside of the them. I understood why they acted the way they did, why they felt the way they did and why the story had to go the way it does. I lost my breath over some incredibly difficult situations. But, at the end of the day, I never stopped rooting for them to find their way back to each other. We all want to believe there is someone out there for them that is as perfect as Stoned and Willow. Not to say they are perfect, obviously they are seriously flawed, but they are perfect for each other and that is all that matters. They are each others rhythm for sure.
I loved EVERY word of this book and I cannot stop recommending it to anyone who will listen. I will also never look at a watermelon lolly the same way again )
Stoned by Mandi Beck is the one of a few books that have made me wish I was a writer so that I could compose a review worthy of it's story.
Stone Lockhart, is the stereotypical rock star...drugs, parties, women, you name it, he's done it (or at least thought about it). But he wasn't always that way. Before the drugs, he once had a love that most people dream of. A true love, a soul mate. But he threw that love away. Now he's ready to do everything in his power to get her back.
"My heart doesn't beat in rhythm when you're not around. You gotta know I need you, to be me."
___________
Willow Avery is an amazingly strong woman. She once loved Stone with all that she had & all that she was, but that love almost destroyed her. She's now built a new life for herself...new town, new job that she loves, new friends, new man. Will she risk it all on a man who has the power to decimate her heart all over again?
"I've held on for so long, you've finally killed my flame. I can't fight fire with fire if mine is gone. "
______________
I could not put this book down! As always Mandi gives us characters that you just can't get enough of & can't help but love. (As much as I wanted to hate Stone, he worked himself into my heart.) And her secondary characters will leave you wanting more!
I can't wait to read what comes next! I give Stoned 5 stars & 6 watermelon lollies!
