Lord of Ice A Novel Gaelen Foley 9780345490674 Books

Book Three of Gaelen Foley's Knight Miscellany tells us the story of Lucien's twin, Damien. Ms Foley does a wonderful job of extending this story and somehow manages to share yet another aspect of Regency England. The war is over and many soldiers are home with nothing to do, suffering from physical and mental issues and attempting to somehow re enter society.

Damien Knight, is the "good" twin, born to be a soldier he has spent the past few years leading his men into endless battles. Now that he is home and the toast of England he is at a loss. Now an Earl, he escapes to the rundown estate he has been given and secludes himself there. Not able to function in society and suffering from PTSD. Slowly recovering. Until one day Lucien shows up and changes everything.

Miranda FitzHubert, illegitimate daughter of has been left to flounder in the school where she had spent most of her life. A place where she becomes the leader and protector of all the younger girls, yet dreams of life on the stage. Although her father was a high ranking lord, Miranda is aware that she walks a line in society. Who would want her? It seems even her family has abandoned her.

When Damien finds out that Miranda has become his guardian due to the death of his dear friend and fellow soldier, he forces himself out of his funk and goes to see to her needs. Finding an adult female instead of the child he expects, he is totally at a loss. When the corrupt and perverted school headmaster all but tosses her out, Damien decides to take her to London and find her a husband. BUT... Miranda has other plans. She is determined to continue to protect those around her.

I enjoyed this book, because it showed Damien as a human, NOT a self righteous prig. Which is how I saw him in Lord of Ice. As all good authors do, Ms. Foley explains Damien's flaws in a way that we not only accept him but totally learn to like him. Which is a good thing.

We do get to see lots of Knight family interaction, something we only saw bits and pieces of in the first two books, and yet that doesn't overtake the wonderful story of Damien and Miranda. Miranda is a strong willed woman who knows what she wants and is not afraid to go for it and it's a pleasure watching her real Damien in. And real him in she does.

Because Damien was one of my least favorite characters going in, I was sure I was going to dislike this book. But the way Ms Gaelen tells his story, I too slowly fell in love with this broken man who lives his life in secrecy. Not for Damien the elegant life of the ton.. nope he is a brawny, earthy fighting man and it was a joy to watch him come to life.

As with all books in this series, I seriously suggest you take the time to read it.

Lord of Ice A Novel Gaelen Foley 9780345490674 Books Reviews

Spoiler Alert!! There may be some content in this that gives away info in the story line, but if you are like me you like to know what your buying. )

Gaelen Foley did it again!!!! This is only the second book of hers that I have read but it was great. I love her characters and how she introduced you to them allowing you to know them as well as they know each other. I love how introduces new problems into the plot and just when you think you can foresee what will happen and how the characters will be torn apart she surprises you and fixes it.
Her hero's are strong manly men that posses there women but have such a caring soft side and though they are possessive they don't try to control them. They appreciate the strength to their women and they love them passionately.
I loved the "Demon", he was soft and honorable yet fierce. Miranda was perfect for him with her light airy character that could pull him from the depths of darkness and even make him smile when no one else could. My heart almost broke for her when he insulted her in the stable and forced her away. I so wanted her to see through his guise. I have to admit at first I was mad at Gaelen for allowing Miranda to believe it, but she solved the problem so expertly and so swiftly that I forgave her quickly.

Now I know I keep saying "I love" a lot but bare with me. lol

I love that she brings in her old characters and makes them a part of the story. I thought is was perfect hos Lucian talked to Miranda and used his skills to get her to confess all. The fact that Gaelen once again stayed true to her characters was very satisfying.

;Now I will warn you if you are looking for a book with tons of sex this is not it. There are only three love scenes (although they are very passionate and well written) and they are not till the last 5 chapters. Don't worry though Gaelen makes it well worth the wait and builds it up very well, if that is what you are concerned about. Honestly she is very good at not going over bored and filling the book with too much. I would have still loved the book if they never had sex.

IDK what else I can say this book is a purchase and maybe plan to be able to sleep in the next morning because you won't be able to put it down once you start. BUY IT AND ENJOY!!!
