The reason Ms. Wheeler uses a slight variation on her name is that these two books are in different genres. While one is a fantasy/fairy tale, the other is historical romantic suspense. Lady Margaret (Meggie) Montley has no interest in “marrying well.” Especially when that means marrying an older man whose money will refill the coffers of her titled, but impoverished, family. Meggie wants to sing that new music—jazz.

She and two of her friends decide to run away from home to New York. One friend wants to design clothes, one becomes a waitress at a speakeasy hoping to snag a wealthy yank, and they meet a third girl enroute, rescue her from an abusive situation, and take her aboard ship as their maid. Meggie gets a job at the speakeasy singing, and catches the eye of Harry Dempsey, the manager. When her third roommate gets a job as a maid to a wealthy man who turns out to be a sex trafficker, Meggie tries to raise money to buy the girl’s contract, and gets involved with the bootleggers who killed Harry’s father. He can’t exactly blow up their ship with Meggy as a witness, and she’s not a “loose end” he’s willing to “tie up.”

Again, Ms. Wheeler writes a page-burning story, with great characters, but she really needs a better editor. I found her bad grammar—misused words, mixed tenses, etc., very distracting. If you’re not a grammar stickler, you’ll probably enjoy it.

Reckless Martini Club 4 Series The 1920s edition by Kathy L Wheeler Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I LOVE the roaring 20's. I was on the edge of my seat with all the intense drama with Lady Margaret 'Meggie' and Harry Dempsey, and a cast of bootleggers and mobster bad guys, that Harry and Meggie have to get through before they can find love. I Loved Meggie and Harry. 'Reckless' is a part of a series...The Martin Club. Margaret, and her friends, Jessica 'Jessie', Charlotte 'Charli' and Eliza all flee England for America, NY, in 1924, for various reasons. I now am anxious to read Jessie, Charli, and Eliza's stories.
The book has all the intrigue drama and mystery of the great Roaring 20's. There are bootleggers, gangsters, Harry Dempsey, a man out for revenge, and Lady Margaret, a singer on the brink of fame. Together they will have a great adventure while falling in love. I love the cover! Would highly recommend this book to everyone especially roaring 20's fans. Ms. Wheeler is a must read.
Loved this story!

Lady Margaret decided she wasn’t going to live the life her mother had planned for her. She and three friends ran away from England to America to make a new life. Lady Margaret had always dreamed of singing and acting and her adventures began once she found a job singing in the 501 Club. She dreams of Harry, the man sitting at a corner table watching her every night and Harry has a few dreams of his own where Lady Margaret is concerned. Harry is looking for the killers of his father and brother, which result in Harry and Margaret ending up together on quite the adventure with some very bad guys.

This book’s setting of the 1920’s was different from what I usually read but I really enjoyed this book and the author had a way of telling the story which made me imagine all the sights and sounds of that era. A great read, check it out!
Loads of good action involving mobsters and bootlegging, and a good dose of romance between Meggie and Harry. I can't recommend this delightful novel enough.
As well as Ruined, this book was also an awesome read! Trying to help her friend, Eliza, Lady Margaret “Meggie” secretly goes on a supposed bootlegging run to earn money that Eliza needs. So, according to a newspaper, Lady Margaret turns into Lady Bootlegger. Harry Dempsy, who sits at a corner table watching Meggie every night she sings at Club 501, also is on this supposed bootlegging run. This book has romance, bootlegging, mobsters and lots of drama/mystery. You just have to read this book to find out what becomes of Meggie and Harry. I would recommend this book to everyone. You won’t be disappointed. I can’t wait to read the other two books in this series, Rebellious and Runaway.
